*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Oak Hollow Lake, a man-made reservoir in the North Carolina Piedmont, experiences typical seasonal surface temperatures for the region. In summer the surface commonly rises into the mid-70s to mid-80s °F (about 24–29 °C), with the warmest readings on calm, sunny days. Spring sees a steady warm-up from roughly the 50s to the mid-60s °F (10–18 °C) as runoff and air temperatures increase. By autumn the lake cools into the 50s to low 70s °F (13–22 °C) and in winter surface temperatures often range from the low 40s to near 50 °F (4–10 °C), though deeper water remains colder year-round. These are surface estimates; deeper layers can be several degrees cooler, and weather, inflow, and wind can change temperatures quickly.
Swimming in Oak Hollow Lake itself is generally not permitted for unguarded recreational bathing, primarily for safety and management reasons. The reservoir supports boating, fishing, and shoreline activities, but authorities restrict open swimming because of submerged hazards, variable visibility and water quality, and the absence of permanent lifeguard supervision. Occasional organized or supervised aquatic programs may be allowed under special permits, so visitors should follow posted rules and county guidance before entering the water.
