*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Quaker Creek Reservoir, like many small to mid-size reservoirs in North Carolina, experiences marked seasonal shifts in surface water temperature. In spring the water typically warms from around 50–70°F (10–21°C) as air temperatures rise and stratification begins. Summer brings the warmest conditions, often 70–85°F (21–29°C) at the surface in July and August, with the warmest surface pockets occasionally approaching the upper end of that range. During fall cooling returns and surface temperatures commonly fall to roughly 55–75°F (13–24°C) as turnover begins. Winter surface temperatures often range from about 35–55°F (2–13°C); freezing is rare but water remains cold enough to make prolonged exposure risky.
Swimming at Quaker Creek Reservoir is often restricted or discouraged rather than encouraged. Many reservoirs in the region are managed for water supply, habitat protection, or flood control, and managers prohibit or limit swimming to reduce contamination risk, protect infrastructure and ensure visitor safety where lifeguards and facilities are absent. Even when informal swimming occurs, cold seasonal temperatures, sudden drop-offs and boat traffic can make it hazardous. If you plan to swim, check current rules and water-quality advisories with the local managing agency before entering the water.
