*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Moodus Reservoir, sometimes called the Lake of Moodus, experiences the same seasonal water temperature swings typical of inland Connecticut lakes. In winter the surface is commonly near freezing and frequently forms ice, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). As spring warms, surface temperatures climb into the 40–60°F (4–16°C) range, which can still feel quite chilly for swimming. Peak summer conditions usually bring the warmest surface readings, often about 70–78°F (21–26°C) on warm, calm days; deeper water remains cooler. By autumn the lake cools again to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures drop and stratification breaks down.
Swimming opportunities at Moodus Reservoir are limited by practical and regulatory factors rather than by a single universal prohibition. Some parts of the shoreline are used for informal swimming and boating, but the reservoir lacks extensive developed beaches or lifeguarded areas, and access may be restricted by town rules, private shoreline ownership, or water-supply protections in certain zones. Water quality, boat traffic and the absence of safety services mean swimmers should exercise caution, wear flotation if appropriate, and check local signage or town authorities for current rules before entering the water.
