*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Congamond Lakes South Pond, located on the Connecticut side of the Congamond system, exhibits the seasonal temperature patterns typical of shallow New England lakes. In spring the surface water usually runs from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) as the lake stratifies and warms; by late spring and early summer temperatures commonly climb into the 60s–70s°F (16–24°C). Peak summer surface readings in July and August often reach roughly 70–80°F (21–27°C) in sun-warmed, shallow areas, while deeper or shaded spots stay a few degrees cooler. As autumn arrives the water cools back through the 50s–60s°F (10–16°C) and by winter the lake approaches freezing, with surface temperatures near 32–40°F (0–4°C) and occasional ice cover depending on winter severity.
Swimming in South Pond is generally allowed for recreational use, but there are caveats that shape when and where people enter the water. There are no widespread staffed public beaches around the pond, and boat traffic, aquatic vegetation and occasional blue‑green algae blooms can limit safe, pleasant swimming; local health or environmental authorities may issue temporary advisories if water quality is poor. As with many multiuse lakes, swimmers are advised to choose clear, shallow areas away from boating lanes, check for current advisories before entering the water, and exercise caution given the absence of lifeguards.
