*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Monksville Reservoir, a man-made drinking-water impoundment in northern New Jersey, has water temperatures that vary considerably through the year. In winter the surface often ranges from about 32–45°F (0–7°C), with colder near-surface ice possible on still, calm days. Spring brings a thaw and warming to roughly 40–65°F (4–18°C) as sun and runoff raise temperatures. In summer the surface typically warms to about 68–80°F (20–27°C), though shallow bays can heat a few degrees higher on hot days while deeper water remains noticeably cooler. Autumn cooling generally produces temperatures in the 50–65°F (10–18°C) window as air temperatures fall and stratification breaks down.
Swimming at Monksville Reservoir is not permitted because the lake serves primarily as a potable water supply and is managed to protect water quality and public safety. Restrictions on bathers help reduce contamination risks and preserve treatment processes. In addition, variable depths, cold thermoclines and limited lifeguarded areas would present safety concerns even when surface temperatures are warm. Recreational boating and fishing are allowed under specific rules, but direct-contact activities such as swimming are prohibited to maintain the reservoir’s role in regional water supply.
