*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Welch, located in New York’s Harriman State Park, experiences a wide range of surface temperatures through the year. In winter months the water can approach freezing, commonly around 32–40°F (0–4°C) with ice formation possible during cold spells. Spring brings a steady rise, with surface temperatures typically in the 45–65°F (7–18°C) range as air temperatures warm and runoff mixes into the lake. By early to mid-summer the water often reaches its warmest, frequently between 70–80°F (21–27°C) on sunny days, especially in July and August, before cooling again into the 60–70°F (15–21°C) band in autumn as the season progresses.
Swimming at Lake Welch is allowed but primarily concentrated at the designated Lake Welch Beach area during the staffed swimming season. The beach is maintained for recreational swimming because lifeguards are present, water quality is monitored periodically, and facilities are provided for visitors. Outside the designated swim area, swimming is generally discouraged due to lack of supervision, potential boat traffic, and variable depths or underwater hazards. Visitors should follow posted rules and seasonal advisories, since access and safety measures can change with weather, staffing, and water-condition assessments.
