Lake Mien (in Swedish, Mien) is a circular crater lake in Skåne County known for clear, deep water and a scenic shoreline. Water temperatures vary strongly with the seasons: in summer the surface commonly reaches about 18–22 °C (64–72 °F), occasionally up to the mid-20s °C (mid-70s °F) during heatwaves. In spring temperatures are typically 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as the lake stratifies, while autumn sees a decline to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). Winter conditions often bring near-freezing water around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and parts of the lake can be ice-covered for periods depending on the year.
Swimming at Mien is generally possible and commonly practiced because Sweden’s public right of access and the presence of accessible shoreline make recreational use feasible. However, swimmers should be aware of factors that influence safety and comfort: the lake can be unexpectedly deep near the crater edge, cold water temperatures even in shoulder seasons raise hypothermia risk, and local water quality or conditions may change.
