*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lura Lake, like many small lakes in southern Minnesota, experiences a strong seasonal swing in water temperature. In winter the surface is typically at or just above freezing, around 32°F (0°C) beneath ice, while late winter and early spring remain cold in the upper 30s to low 40s °F (3–6°C). During spring and early summer the lake warms through the 40s and 50s °F (5–15°C) as stratification develops. Peak summer surface temperatures often reach the 70s °F (21–27°C) and can occasionally climb into the low 80s °F (27–28°C) during heat waves; deeper water stays noticeably cooler. In autumn the surface cools back into the 50s and 60s °F (10–18°C) as turnover begins and ice formation approaches.
Swimming in Lura Lake is generally possible during ice-free months because surface temperatures in summer commonly enter a comfortable range. Whether swimming is allowed depends on local access, ownership and any posted advisories; many public lakes in Minnesota permit recreational swimming but water-quality notices or harmful algal blooms can temporarily restrict it. There are typically no lifeguards, so swimmers should be cautious about cold-water shock, depth changes and hypothermia risk when temperatures are under roughly 70°F (21°C). In winter the lake is not safe for swimming; only managed ice activities with proper safety checks are appropriate.
