*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Budd Lake in Minnesota experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in water temperature. After ice-out in spring, surface temperatures typically range from roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C) as the water gradually warms through May and June. In midsummer the surface often reaches its warmest, commonly about 68–78°F (20–26°C) on sunny days in shallower areas, while deeper water remains noticeably cooler below the thermocline. During autumn the lake cools again, with surface readings generally falling to 45–65°F (7–18°C) before ice forms; in winter the surface is at or near freezing, about 32–36°F (0–2°C), and ice cover makes open-water conditions rare.
Swimming at Budd Lake is generally possible and practiced when the lake is ice-free and water quality permits. Recreational swimming is typically allowed from late spring through early fall because the lake has accessible shoreline and is used for public recreation, but actual conditions vary year to year. Water that is below about 60°F (15°C) can be uncomfortable and increases risk of cold-water shock, so most casual swimmers prefer the warmest summer weeks when temperatures are in the upper 60s to upper 70s °F (about 20–26°C). Always follow local advisories, observe posted signs, and be mindful of sudden temperature changes with depth and weather.
