*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Vernon, located near Huntsville in the Muskoka region of Ontario, is the largest lake in the area and is a key part of a four-lake system. Its water temperature is typical of deep, large inland lakes in Central Ontario. In the deep winter months, the lake freezes completely, with water temperatures near freezing, generally ranging from 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F). During the peak summer season, surface water warms considerably, typically reaching a comfortable range for swimming, likely peaking between 20∘C and 24∘C (68∘F to 75∘F), with some shallow areas possibly seeing slightly higher, short-term peaks.
Swimming is widely permitted and encouraged at Lake Vernon, which features a primary public access point at Hutcheson Beach. The beach is recognized as a key swimming area, though it is typically unsupervised, meaning there are no official lifeguards on duty. All swimming is strictly at one's own risk. Like other lakes in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, the water is periodically monitored for E. coli bacteria by the local health unit. Swimmers should be mindful of the large amount of boat traffic on this lake, which is part of a navigable system, and should always use caution outside of designated beach areas.
