*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Taneycomo’s water is noticeably cooler than many Missouri lakes because it is largely a tailwater released from deep levels of Table Rock Lake. Seasonal surface temperatures commonly sit roughly in the mid 30s–40s °F (about 2–7 °C) in winter, rise into the mid 40s–60s °F (7–16 °C) through spring and fall, and typically reach the mid 50s–70s °F (13–21 °C) in the warmest summer months. Local variation occurs by depth and location along the lake; the stretch immediately below Table Rock Dam stays much colder year-round, which is one reason Taneycomo supports a strong trout fishery rather than warmwater species.
Swimming is not a primary recreational use of Lake Taneycomo and is uncommon in many areas. There is no blanket statewide prohibition, but some shorelines and zones near dams, boat traffic lanes, and privately managed properties have restrictions or strong safety concerns. Cold temperatures, strong currents and sudden depth changes can raise hypothermia and drowning risk even in summer, so many visitors avoid casual swimming. Where swimming is permitted, wearing a life jacket, checking local rules and conditions, and staying well away from dam structures and boating channels are prudent safety measures.
