Norfork Lake, located in north-central Arkansas near Mountain Home, is a large and deep reservoir on the North Fork River, known for its clear, clean water and scenic Ozark surroundings. The lake’s water temperature varies throughout the year due to its depth and regional climate. In winter, surface temperatures typically range from 7–10 °C (45–50 °F), while deeper sections remain colder. During spring, the water gradually warms to around 15–21 °C (59–70 °F). By midsummer, Norfork Lake reaches its warmest period, with surface temperatures averaging 25–29 °C (77–84 °F), though deeper areas remain much cooler and refreshing. In autumn, the water cools again to about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) before dropping further as winter approaches.
Swimming in Norfork Lake is allowed and very popular during the summer months, typically from late May through early September. The lake’s clear water, gentle slopes, and numerous coves make it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and other recreational activities. Designated swimming areas are available at public parks and resorts around the shoreline, offering safe and accessible spots for visitors.
