** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Süphan Gölü, a high‑altitude lake near Mount Süphan in Van province, is fed largely by snowmelt and cold mountain streams, so its water remains cool through the year. Seasonal surface temperatures typically run from near freezing in late winter and early spring — roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) — rising modestly in summer to perhaps 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) on calm, warm days. In autumn the lake cools again to about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). Because of its altitude, limited thermal retention, and frequent winds, even summer temperatures can feel brisk compared with lowland lakes.
Swimming is generally possible only as a brief, cautious activity in summer when surface temperatures are highest, but it is not broadly recommended. The main reasons are the persistent cold that increases hypothermia risk, unpredictable weather and waves, the remoteness and lack of rescue services, and occasional local conservation or access restrictions aimed at protecting fragile alpine ecosystems. If someone chooses to enter the water, short acclimatized dips on warm days, appropriate dry clothing, and accompaniment by others are important precautions, and visitors should check local guidance before attempting to swim.
