Lake Nemrut, known in Turkish as Nemrut Gölü, is a high‑altitude crater lake in the Bitlis region whose surface water stays cold year‑round because of elevation and limited solar warming. Typical seasonal surface temperatures are roughly below freezing in winter (about −5 to 0 °C, or 23 to 32 °F) when the lake can be partly or fully ice‑covered; in spring temperatures rise to around 0 to 8 °C (32 to 46 °F) as snowmelt feeds the basin; the warmest period is midsummer, when surface readings commonly range from roughly 8 to 15 °C (46 to 59 °F); in autumn the lake cools again to approximately 2 to 8 °C (36 to 46 °F). These values are approximate and vary with weather, depth sampled and annual precipitation.
Swimming at Nemrut Gölü is generally uncommon and is not recommended for most visitors.
