*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Shetek’s surface water temperatures vary notably through the year because the lake is relatively shallow and responds quickly to air temperatures. In summer, surface readings commonly range from about 70–80°F (21–27°C), with occasional warm spells pushing into the low 80s°F (27–28°C). During spring, after ice-out, temperatures are typically quite chilly, roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C). In autumn the lake cools to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) before freezing; in winter the surface frequently reaches the freezing point, about 32°F (0°C), when ice cover develops. Because of the shallow profile, summer warming can be rapid and nighttime cooling significant, producing variability from day to day.
Swimming is permitted at Lake Shetek’s designated public beaches and is a common summer activity, mainly because the warmer surface temperatures in July and August are generally comfortable for bathing. However, swimming is subject to posted advisories and signage: late-summer algal blooms, elevated bacteria levels, or aquatic vegetation can lead to temporary closures for health and safety reasons. Many beaches are unguarded, so swimmers should be cautious about depth changes, cold-water shock outside peak months, and follow local guidance on water quality before entering.
