** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Hendricks experiences the same seasonal swings in water temperature typical of small inland lakes in Minnesota. During winter the lake surface commonly falls to near freezing around 32°F (0°C), often forming an ice cover. In spring, as ice breaks up and the water mixes, surface temperatures generally rise into the 40–60°F range (4–15°C). Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface readings commonly between about 68–78°F (20–26°C) and occasionally a few degrees warmer in shallow bays on hot spells. In autumn the water cools again, typically settling in the 45–60°F range (7–15°C) before refreezing.
Swimming is generally allowed at Lake Hendricks where public access and informal shore areas exist, but whether it is advisable depends on season and conditions. Warm summer temperatures make recreational swimming comfortable for most people, whereas spring and fall waters are brisk and potentially uncomfortable for prolonged immersion. In winter, ice cover precludes normal swimming and introduces hazards. Water quality and algae or bacterial advisories can also restrict swimming at times, so local guidance and posted notices should be checked. Safety considerations such as currents near inlets, underwater hazards, and water clarity are additional reasons to choose designated access points and heed any official warnings.
