*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Lestijärvi, located in Central Ostrobothnia, is one of the largest lakes in its region and is notably shallow, which influences its thermal properties. Swimming is fully allowed along its extensive shoreline due to the Finnish Everyman’s Rights, granting free access to the water for recreational activities, so long as privacy and environmental protection are observed. The lake’s shallow average depth of approximately 3.6 meters means it warms up relatively quickly, providing excellent summer swimming opportunities from multiple points.
The water temperature of Lestijärvi is highly seasonal. During the winter, from December to April, the lake is frozen, and the water temperature remains near the freezing point, between 0∘C and 4∘C. The best time for swimming is during the peak summer. In July, the shallow nature of the lake allows surface temperatures to typically warm up to a very comfortable range of 18∘C to 22∘C, and sometimes even higher during heatwaves. Outside of the brief summer window, the water cools rapidly, mainly attracting cold-water bathers.
