Lago di Lèsina is a shallow coastal lagoon on the northern Apulian coast connected to the Adriatic Sea, and its water temperatures reflect both maritime influence and the lagoon’s limited depth. During winter the surface typically cools to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), while spring sees a gradual rise into the 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) bracket as sunlight and air temperatures increase. In summer the lagoon can warm appreciably, commonly ranging from about 20–28 °C (68–82 °F) at the surface, with the warmest conditions from July through early September. Autumn temperatures usually fall back toward 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) before the winter chill.
Swimming in Lago di Lèsina is practiced locally, especially in the warmer months when surface temperatures are most comfortable, but conditions vary and not all areas are equally suitable. The lagoon’s shallow, brackish waters, extensive reedbeds and fishing activity mean some zones are better for wading than for open-water swimming.
