** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lago di Varano is a shallow, brackish coastal lagoon on the Gargano promontory whose waters show pronounced seasonal variation. In winter the surface temperature typically sits around 8–13 °C (46–55 °F), warming through spring to roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F). By high summer the sheltered, shallow areas often reach 22–30 °C (72–86 °F) on warm days, while autumn sees a gradual cooling to about 16–22 °C (61–72 °F). Because the lake is relatively shallow and partially cut off from the open sea, it tends to warm faster than deeper coastal waters, and localized conditions such as wind, freshwater inflows and tidal exchange can create notable variations across the basin.
Swimming does occur at Lago di Varano and is possible in several accessible spots, particularly in the warmer months when temperatures are most comfortable for bathing. However, the lake lies within an ecological landscape where some sections are part of protected wetlands and conservation zones; in those areas bathing can be discouraged or legally restricted to preserve habitats and birdlife. Water quality and bottom conditions (mud, reeds and shallow channels) also vary, so local signage and municipal rules should be consulted before entering the water. Overall, swimming is permitted in many places but subject to local management and environmental considerations.
