** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lago di Barrea is an artificial lake in Abruzzo set within the Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise, and its water temperature varies considerably with the seasons. In summer months (June–August) surface temperatures typically range from about 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), with shallower bays sometimes warming toward 25 °C (77 °F) on hot days. During spring and early autumn the lake is noticeably cooler, commonly between 8–16 °C (46–61 °F), while winter temperatures can fall to roughly 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) and may approach freezing during cold spells. Thermal stratification and mountain runoff mean deeper water stays colder even in mid-summer.
Swimming in Lago di Barrea is commonly practiced during the warmer months where shore access permits, and many visitors bathe from small beaches or rocky headlands. Because the lake lies within a national park and is also a managed reservoir, there are local rules and areas where bathing or anchoring may be restricted—for example near the dam or in zones set aside to protect wildlife or water management infrastructure. Water quality is generally good, but swimmers should heed posted signs, avoid boat traffic, and be aware of sudden cold depths and currents that can make swimming more challenging than it appears.
