** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hestholm Sø, located in the Central Denmark Region, typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of small Danish lakes. In winter the surface water commonly falls to around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and may approach freezing on cold spells. Spring warming brings temperatures up into roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the lake stratifies. Peak summer temperatures often range from about 14–22 °C (57–72 °F) on warm days, with the warmest surface readings in July and August. During early autumn temperatures usually decline to somewhere near 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) as cooling and mixing resume. These are typical seasonal bands rather than precise, monitored values for every year; actual temperatures vary with weather, depth and inflow.
Swimming at Hestholm Sø is generally possible where public access and suitable shorelines exist, but local rules, signage and water quality advisories should be checked before entering the water. Like many Danish lakes, bathing can be affected by short-term issues such as cyanobacterial blooms, nutrient-driven turbidity or after heavy rains, so municipalities may issue temporary warnings. Cold-water precautions are sensible outside high summer: water below about 15 °C (59 °F) increases risk of cold shock and shortens safe exposure time. Standard safety measures—entering gradually, supervising children and avoiding solitary swimming—are recommended.
