** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Esrum Sø (Danish: Esrum Sø) typically follows the seasonal temperature patterns of shallow temperate lakes in northern Europe. During winter the surface often falls to about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with occasional brief freezing in very cold winters. Spring temperatures rise from roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the lake stratifies, while summer is when the warmest conditions occur, commonly between 17–24 °C (63–75 °F) on average and sometimes higher during heat spells. In autumn the water cools back down to roughly 7–14 °C (45–57 °F). These ranges vary year to year depending on air temperature, wind and sunlight; shallower bays warm and cool faster than deeper central parts of the lake.
Swimming at Esrum Sø is generally allowed and popular in suitable spots, as Denmark has a culture of open access to inland waters. There are informal bathing areas and places to enter from the shore and jetties, but lifeguards are not usually present and some shores are reed-fringed or private. Water quality is often good, though occasional summer algal blooms or runoff events can prompt local advisories; swimmers should heed posted warnings and avoid areas with visible blue‑green scum. Cold‑water swimming is possible year‑round but requires experience and appropriate precautions because low temperatures and variable conditions can pose risks.
