** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Menomin, a shallow reservoir on the Red Cedar River in Menomonie, Wisconsin, tends to show marked seasonal shifts in water temperature. After ice-out in spring the surface often sits in the 40s to low 60s °F (about 4–16 °C) as the water mixes and warms. In summer, especially during warm spells, surface temperatures commonly reach the low 70s to low 80s °F (roughly 21–28 °C) because the lake is relatively shallow and heats quickly. During autumn the lake cools back toward the 40s–60s °F range (4–16 °C) and in winter the water under ice will be close to freezing, around 32–39 °F (0–4 °C). Short-term weather, wind and inflows can cause noticeable variability day to day.
Swimming at Lake Menomin is generally allowed at public access points and parks, but use is often conditional. Because the lake is eutrophic and can experience nuisance aquatic plants and harmful algal blooms, local health authorities sometimes post advisories or close swimming areas when cyanobacteria or elevated bacteria levels are detected. There are also typical safety concerns such as aquatic vegetation, variable depths and currents near the dam. For safe recreation it’s advisable to check current water-quality advisories and posted rules at city or county parks before swimming.
