** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Bolsena (Italian: Lago di Bolsena) is a large volcanic freshwater lake in Lazio whose surface temperatures vary noticeably through the year. In winter the surface typically cools to about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F), while spring brings a gradual rise to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F). By summer, especially July and August, lake water commonly warms to 20–28 °C (68–82 °F) in nearshore areas on sunny days, though deep parts remain cooler. In autumn the temperature falls again, ranging broadly from about 12–22 °C (54–72 °F) as the lake loses summer heat. Local weather, wind and depth all influence these values, so conditions can vary from one bay to another.
Swimming in Lago di Bolsena is generally allowed and popular during the warmer months because the lake is freshwater, has a number of public beaches and managed lidos, and usually meets regional bathing-water quality standards. Designated bathing areas may have lifeguards in season, while other spots are unsupervised; boat traffic and colder deep water can pose hazards, so swimmers should prefer marked beaches and exercise caution. Occasional localized algal patches can occur, so checking local advisories before swimming is sensible.
