The Laguna di Orbetello (in Italien - Laguna di Orbetello) is a shallow coastal lagoon on the Tuscan coast whose water temperature reflects its limited exchange with the open sea and the seasonal Mediterranean climate. In winter surface temperatures commonly fall to around 8–12 °C (46–54 °F), rising in spring to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Summer months warm more noticeably in the shallow basins, typically reaching 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) and occasionally a few degrees higher in sheltered, sunlit areas. During autumn the lagoon cools back toward 16–20 °C (61–68 °F) as maritime influences increase and daylight wanes.
Swimming in the Laguna di Orbetello is possible but limited by environmental and safety considerations. Some stretches are used for bathing, especially where the lagoon opens to the sea and near the town of Orbetello, yet large portions are part of protected habitats with reedbeds, seagrass and bird reserves where swimming is discouraged or restricted to avoid disturbing wildlife and to prevent ecological damage.
