*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Ikesjaure in Norrbotten County is a subarctic lake whose water temperatures reflect the long, cool seasons of northern Sweden. During spring, when ice thaws, surface temperatures are typically close to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). In summer the surface can warm to roughly 10–20 °C (50–68 °F), with many years seeing comfortable swimming conditions in sheltered, shallow bays around 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). By autumn the lake cools back to approximately 4–10 °C (39–50 °F), and in winter it is normally ice-covered with water at or just above 0 °C (32 °F) beneath the ice; deeper layers often remain near 4 °C (39 °F) because of water’s density profile.
Swimming at Ikesjaure (Ikesjaure) is generally permitted under Sweden’s allemansrätt, but practical and safety considerations determine whether people choose to enter the water. Open‑water swimming is most feasible in the warmest weeks of summer when surface temperatures are highest, whereas early and late season swims carry significant hypothermia risk. In winter, ice‑swimming is possible for experienced people using proper precautions and equipment, but most visitors avoid unsupervised cold-water exposure. The lake’s remoteness, lack of lifeguards and variable weather mean caution, flotation aids and short immersion times are advisable whenever swimming.
