*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Andkjelvatnet (Norwegian: Andkjelvatnet) is a freshwater lake in Nordland where surface temperatures follow the seasonal rhythm of northern Norway. After winter ice melt, spring surface temperatures typically rise from about 1–8 °C (34–46 °F) as snowmelt feeds the lake. In the warmest weeks of summer the surface can reach roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F), although colder conditions are common early and late in the season. By autumn temperatures decline again to roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F), and in winter the lake is often at or below freezing near the surface and may form ice, with surface temperatures around 0 °C (32 °F) or lower where ice persists. Deeper water remains colder year-round, and short, cool summers mean that even summer swims are brisk compared with southern climates.
Swimming at Andkjelvatnet is generally possible and commonly practiced by locals and visitors who are prepared for chilly water. Norway’s customary right of public access permits recreational use of inland waters, but swimmers should be cautious: there are typically no formal lifeguards, water can be unexpectedly cold below the surface, and weather can change quickly. Wetsuits, gradual acclimatization, and checking local ice and weather conditions improve safety and comfort for those choosing to swim.
