*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hornavan (Swedish: Hornavan) is a large, deep lake in Norrbotten County whose water temperatures reflect its subarctic location and great depth. Surface temperatures in summer typically range from about 10–20 °C (50–68 °F), with ordinary summer afternoons most often between 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). During spring and early summer, as ice melts, surface values are commonly in the 1–8 °C range (34–46 °F). In autumn the surface cools to roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F). Because Hornavan is very deep, bottom waters remain near 4 °C (39 °F) year-round, so overall the lake stays cold compared with more southerly Swedish lakes.
Swimming in Hornavan is possible but seasonal and conditions-dependent. In practice people swim primarily in the brief summer months when surface temperatures are highest, while organized bathing areas are less common than in more populated regions. Ice cover and very low water temperatures for much of the year make winter swimming dangerous unless undertaken with proper cold-water experience and safety measures. Water quality is generally good, but anyone considering swimming should respect local signage, the short bathing season, and the risks posed by cold, deep water and sudden weather changes.
