*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Storavan, a lake in Norrbotten County (Swedish: Storavan), shows marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In winter the lake is typically frozen and water temperatures under the ice are close to 0 °C (32 °F). During spring, as ice melts, surface temperatures commonly range from about 0–8 °C (32–46 °F) and rise steadily through late spring. In the warmest summer months the surface often reaches roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F), occasionally climbing a few degrees higher in heat waves. Autumn brings cooling waters, with typical surface temperatures of roughly 5–15 °C (41–59 °F) before refreezing begins again.
Swimming at Storavan is generally allowed, as Swedish lakes are public waters, and many shorelines are used for bathing in summer. However, swimmers should be aware that even in summer the water can be brisk and hypothermia is a risk after prolonged exposure; shallow, sheltered bays warm faster than open, deeper areas. In winter, ice swimming is practiced by some, but only where ice thickness and local conditions make it safe and when proper precautions and equipment are used. Always check local guidance, water quality updates and safety conditions before entering the lake.
