*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Laguna Grande de Peñalara is a small high‑mountain glacial lake in the Sierra de Guadarrama near Madrid whose waters remain cold year‑round. Seasonal surface temperatures typically range from around 0 °C (32 °F) in winter when the lake often freezes, through spring thaw values roughly 0–6 °C (32–43 °F). In the brief summer period, on the warmest days the surface may reach about 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), though deeper water stays colder and air temperature swings can be large. By autumn the lake cools again to roughly 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as nights grow colder and snowfall returns.
Swimming in the Laguna Grande is generally not permitted and is widely discouraged. The lake lies within the protected Peñalara natural area, where restrictions aim to preserve fragile alpine habitats and water quality; moreover, the very low water temperatures and sudden mountain weather create a significant hypothermia and safety risk even for strong swimmers. For these ecological and safety reasons visitors are advised to enjoy the scenery and hiking routes around the lake rather than entering the water.
