*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Northumberland
Fontburn Reservoir’s water stays cool for most of the year. Typical surface temperatures range from around 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) in winter, rise to about 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) during spring and autumn, and reach roughly 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) on warmer summer days. Because the reservoir is deep and fed by upland streams, even summer temperatures can feel brisk compared with coastal waters. Cold water shock and rapid changes in depth are real risks, so sudden immersion is dangerous.
Swimming is not provided for as an organised activity at Fontburn; there are no marked bathing areas or lifeguards, and water bodies of this type are often managed with restrictions for safety and operational reasons. Wild swimming does take place locally, but anyone choosing to enter the water should do so knowing it is at their own risk and should take appropriate precautions. The surrounding area offers pleasant alternatives, including walking and cycling routes, birdwatching and angling opportunities, along with the scenic Northumberland countryside and nearby country lanes and villages to explore.
