*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#County Durham
Burnhope Reservoir, set high in County Durham’s Weardale, stays noticeably cool through the year because of its upland location and depth. Typical water temperatures run around 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) in winter, rise to roughly 5–12 °C (41–54 °F) in spring and autumn, and may reach about 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) at the warmest in summer, though cooler conditions persist in deeper parts. Visitors should be aware that these figures are approximate and can vary with weather, inflows and time of day.
Swimming is generally discouraged and often prohibited by reservoir owners and local authorities for safety and water-quality reasons: cold-water shock, hidden depths, steep or slippery banks and the importance of protecting drinking-water supplies make unsupervised bathing unsafe. Instead people commonly visit for walking, birdwatching and photography. Nearby attractions include the wild landscapes of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, woodland trails at Hamsterley Forest and the small villages and mining heritage of Weardale, which offer additional outdoor activities and places to explore.
