** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Northumberland
Catcleugh Reservoir in Northumberland is an upland impoundment, so its water tends to be cold year-round. Typical seasonal surface temperatures range from around 1–4 °C (34–39 °F) in winter, 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in spring, 12–16 °C (54–61 °F) at the warmest points in summer, and 6–10 °C (43–50 °F) in autumn. Deeper water stays markedly colder than the surface, and wind, rainfall and inflows can cause rapid changes, so actual temperatures may vary day to day.
Swimming at Catcleugh is generally not permitted and is discouraged for safety and operational reasons. As a working reservoir, the site has infrastructure, variable depths, cold thermoclines and limited lifeguard cover, all of which increase risk, and water company rules often restrict bathing to protect supply quality. Visitors commonly enjoy the area on foot or by bike, taking in forested trails, birdwatching and scenic drives. Nearby attractions include the forests and recreation at Kielder, parts of Northumberland’s wild landscapes and small rural villages offering routes for walking and wildlife spotting.
