** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Detroit Lake, a reservoir in Oregon’s Cascade Range, typically has cool surface temperatures that vary by season. In winter the surface can be near freezing up to about 45°F (0–7°C). Spring temperatures usually rise into the 40s and 50s°F (4–13°C) as snowmelt and runoff continue to cool the lake. In summer, surface water commonly reaches the warmest range, roughly 60–75°F (16–24°C) on sunny days, though pockets of cooler water persist and deeper layers remain significantly colder. In autumn the surface generally cools back into the 50s and low 60s°F (10–17°C) as air temperatures fall and inflows increase.
Swimming is allowed in many parts of Detroit Lake because it is managed for recreation, with designated beaches and campground shoreline access intended for bathing and water play. However, swimmers should be aware of safety and health considerations: cold water temperatures below the surface can cause cold shock and hypothermia, boat traffic and wake can create hazards, and occasional water-quality advisories or algal blooms may restrict swimming. Lifeguards are not always present, so following posted rules, using flotation devices, and checking current conditions before entering the water are advisable.
