*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Green Peter Lake, a reservoir in Oregon, experiences a wide range of surface water temperatures through the year. In winter the lake’s surface commonly cools to roughly 34–45°F (1–7°C), often feeling biting to the touch. Spring brings gradual warming, with surface readings typically in the 45–60°F (7–16°C) range as runoff and sunnier days raise the temperature. Peak summer surface temps commonly reach the low to mid 60s up into the 70s°F (about 15–24°C), with the warmest, sun-exposed shallows sometimes bordering the mid-70s°F (around 24°C). By autumn the lake cools again, generally settling into about 50–65°F (10–18°C) before the winter chill returns. Deeper water stays noticeably colder year-round.
Swimming is permitted at Green Peter in managed recreation areas and at various access points, but conditions dictate whether it’s comfortable or advisable. Designated day-use sites provide places to enter the water, yet there are no lifeguards at most locations and boat traffic, sudden drop-offs, submerged hazards and cold temperatures can make swimming risky. Because the reservoir can stratify and release cold water from depth, even summer swims may feel chilly; visitors are advised to assess conditions, wear a life jacket if boating, and supervise children closely.
