The temperature does not cause significant discomfort, and swimming will be pleasant for the majority. However, it's important to remember that prolonged exposure to the water can still lead to cooling, so it's essential to monitor the time spent in the water, especially for children or elderly people. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The lake behind Çat Dam (Çat Barajı) in Erzurum is a high‑altitude reservoir fed by snowmelt and seasonal runoff, so its surface temperatures remain relatively cool compared with lowland lakes. Typical seasonal surface ranges are roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in winter, 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) in spring, 14–22 °C (57–72 °F) in summer, and 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) in autumn. These figures vary with year, weather, wind and depth: shallow bays warm faster in summer while deeper sections and inflow zones stay much colder. Rapid temperature changes between surface and deeper water are possible and the lake can develop only a weak thermal stratification because of regular winds and inflows.
Swimming opportunities are limited by both environmental and management factors. Officially, many reservoirs in the region are subject to restrictions due to water supply, irrigation operations, safety hazards such as steep banks, sudden level changes and underwater obstructions, and generally cold water that increases risk of hypothermia. In warm midsummer some locals may swim in sheltered and shallow areas, but anyone considering entering the water should check local regulations, be aware of cold temperatures even in summer and respect posted warnings to avoid safety and legal problems.
