** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Essex
Canvey Lake is a shallow urban lake on Canvey Island where water temperatures vary with the seasons. In winter the surface commonly cools to around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F), spring brings gradual warming to roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F), summer peaks at about 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), and autumn typically sees temperatures fall back toward 10–16 °C (50–61 °F). These figures are approximate and can change with weather, rainfall and tidal influence from nearby estuary waters, so actual conditions on any given day may differ.
Swimming at Canvey Lake is not provided as an official, lifeguarded activity; there are no formal bathing facilities and local authorities do not routinely monitor it as a designated bathing water. Because of variable water quality, lack of safety services and uneven depths, organised swimming is generally discouraged, though occasional informal wild swimming does occur among experienced swimmers who accept the risks. Visitors can instead enjoy nearby attractions such as the Canvey seafront and promenade, local parks and nature reserves, and the broader Essex coastline and towns like Southend-on-Sea.
