*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Essex
Hanningfield Reservoir in Essex is a large, shallow drinking-water reservoir whose surface temperatures change with the seasons. In summer the water typically warms to around 18–22 °C (64–72 °F) on sunny days, while spring and autumn see more moderate temperatures in the region of 8–16 °C (46–61 °F). In winter the surface often drops to about 4–6 °C (39–43 °F). These figures are approximate and local weather, wind and depth mean deeper water can remain significantly colder than the surface.
Swimming at Hanningfield is not permitted because the reservoir supplies potable water and public bathing risks contamination; there are also safety hazards such as steep banks, cold, deep water and submerged structures. The site is, however, open for passive recreation: there are walking routes, bird hides and picnic areas around the country park, and licensed angling in designated places. Nearby attractions include rural villages, local historic sites and country gardens, which together make the area popular for birdwatching and gentle outdoor recreation rather than open-water swimming.
