** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bridgeport Reservoir, an alpine impoundment in eastern California, experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in water temperature. Surface temperatures in summer typically range from about 60–72°F (15–22°C) on warm afternoons, though cooler weather and wind can keep highs lower. In spring and autumn the water is commonly in the 40–60°F range (4–15°C), and winter conditions often bring temperatures down toward freezing at the surface, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), with ice possible along sheltered shallows. Because the reservoir is relatively deep in places, temperatures drop quickly with depth; swimmers moving below the thin warm surface layer can encounter much colder water that increases hypothermia risk even in summer.
Swimming is generally allowed at Bridgeport Reservoir and the shoreline is used for recreational bathing when weather permits, since it is a public recreation area. However, some locations near the dam, intake structures, boat ramps or private property can be restricted for safety or operational reasons, and there are no routine lifeguards. Visitors should be aware of cold-water shock, boat traffic, sudden drop-offs and local rules posted at access points; checking current conditions and signage before entering the water is advised to ensure a safe swim.
