** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Walker Lake’s surface water temperature fluctuates considerably with Nevada’s seasons and local weather. In winter the lake often falls into the mid-30s to mid-40s °F (about 2–7 °C), making the water quite cold. Spring brings gradual warming to roughly the mid-40s to low-60s °F (7–16 °C). Peak summer surface temperatures typically reach the mid-60s to upper-70s °F (18–26 °C), though shallow, sheltered bays may warm a bit more on hot, calm days. By autumn the surface cools back toward the 50s–60s °F (10–18 °C). These are approximate surface ranges; deeper water remains cooler and conditions can change quickly with wind, inflow and recent weather.
Swimming at Walker Lake is generally allowed from public access points, and some people do swim there in warmer months, but there are important caveats. Water levels have declined and salinity has increased over recent decades, which affects ecology and can change the feel and buoyancy of the water; this, combined with occasionally cold temperatures, limited facilities and few or no lifeguards, means swimmers should exercise caution. Seasonal algal or water-quality issues can occur, so it’s advisable to check local conditions, avoid swimming alone, and be prepared for cooler-than-expected water even in summer.
