*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Rex Lake in Ohio typically follows the seasonal behavior of small Midwestern lakes, with surface temperatures changing noticeably through the year. In winter the water commonly sits at or just above freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and the lake can ice over during cold spells. Spring brings a steady warm-up, with surface temperatures often in the 40–60°F range (4–15°C) as runoff and increasing air temperatures heat the upper layers. By summer the surface usually reaches its warmest, commonly about 70–80°F (21–27°C) on average for recreational depths, though shallow bays can be warmer and deep spots cooler. During autumn the water cools again into the 50–70°F range (10–21°C) as stratification breaks down and the lake returns toward winter conditions.
Swimming opportunities at Rex Lake depend on local management, water quality and safety considerations rather than temperature alone. If there is a designated public beach or a management plan that allows bathing, people generally swim in summer when surface temperatures are most comfortable. Conversely, private ownership, posted restrictions, concerns about harmful algal blooms, bacterial advisories, strong currents, submerged hazards or boating traffic can prohibit or limit swimming. Lifeguards, posted rules and periodic water-quality testing are the usual determinants of when and where it is advisable and legally permitted to swim.
