** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Beltrami Lake in Minnesota experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in surface water temperature typical of northern lakes. In spring the water usually runs cold as it thaws, roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C). Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures commonly between 65–80°F (18–27°C) on warm afternoons; deeper water remains cooler. In autumn the lake cools back toward spring levels, often 40–60°F (4–16°C) before freeze-up. During winter the lake is generally ice-covered and surface temperatures are near freezing, about 32°F (0°C) with the densest water near 39°F (4°C) at depth under the ice.
Swimming is generally allowed at Beltrami Lake where public access or private shoreline permits recreational use, and many people swim during the warmer summer months when surface temperatures are comfortable. However, whether swimming is advisable depends on current conditions: cold spring and fall water can present hypothermia risk, and winter ice cover makes normal swimming unsafe. Local rules, posted advisories about water quality, algal blooms or hazardous conditions, and personal safety precautions such as life jackets should be followed. Seasonal temperature and ice conditions dictate when swimming is both legal and safe.
