** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Blackduck Lake in northern Minnesota follows the typical seasonal pattern for small inland lakes in the region. Surface temperatures in spring are usually cold, roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the water mixes and warms after ice-out. In summer the lake commonly reaches its warmest range, about 65–80°F (18–27°C) on the surface on sunny days, with warmer, shallower bays often a few degrees higher. By fall the lake cools back to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures drop and stratification breaks down. In winter the lake freezes or stays very near 32°F (0°C), so open water temperatures are not applicable until ice-out.
Swimming is generally permitted during the open-water season and is a common recreational use when conditions are safe. Local rules, posted signs, and water-quality reports should be checked first, because harmful algal blooms or bacterial advisories can temporarily close areas. There are also typical safety considerations: cold spring water can produce cold-shock risk, and there are no guarantees of lifeguards or maintained beaches at every access point. Winter ice-covered periods are not suitable for conventional swimming, although some organized ice-swim events occur under controlled, supervised conditions.
