** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bardwell Lake is a shallow, reservoir-style lake whose surface temperatures vary markedly with the seasons. In summer, surface readings commonly reach about 75–90°F (24–32°C), with the warmest values in July and August. Spring and fall are transitional, with surface temperatures typically in the 55–75°F range (13–24°C) as air temperatures moderate. In winter the lake can cool to roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C) at the surface; deeper water remains colder year-round, and sudden changes in weather or inflows can produce abrupt shifts in temperature. These seasonal ranges are typical for reservoirs in North Texas and will vary day to day with hot spells, cold snaps, wind, and recent rainfall.
Officially, Bardwell Lake does not have maintained public swim beaches and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers does not promote organized swimming there, so swimming is generally discouraged or not permitted in unspecified areas. The combination of heavy boat traffic, submerged hazards, fluctuating water levels, limited lifeguard coverage, and variable water quality makes informal swimming unsafe and contrary to Corps recreation policies. Visitors seeking to cool off are more often advised to use designated swimming facilities or parks with lifeguards and clear rules rather than entering open reservoir waters at Bardwell.
