** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Aquilla Lake’s surface temperature shifts considerably through the year, responding to air temperature, wind and inflow. In summer months the water commonly warms to the mid-70s–mid-80s °F (about 24–29 °C) and during hot spells can rise toward 90 °F (≈32 °C) in shallow bays. Spring temperatures typically climb from the mid-50s to around 70 °F (13–21 °C) as the lake stratifies, while fall brings a gradual cooling back into the 60s °F (16–21 °C). Winter surface readings often sit in the mid-40s to mid-50s °F (7–13 °C), though cold snaps can push them lower. These numbers vary by depth, location on the reservoir and day-to-day weather, so local conditions can differ from the averages above.
Swimming in and around Aquilla Lake is generally possible and is practiced by visitors, but it is largely informal and subject to local rules and conditions. Many access points offer shoreline and shallow-water entry, yet most areas do not have lifeguards and swimming is at one’s own risk. Safety concerns include submerged structures, fluctuating currents near spillways and boat channels, and occasional water-quality advisories such as algal blooms. Water is comfortably warm for recreation in summer, moderately cool in spring and fall, and cold in winter, when hypothermia becomes a risk; checking posted signs and current advisories before entering is recommended.
