Location & Local Information
Bardača Lake, located in the northern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina near Srbac, is part of a large wetland complex surrounded by smaller ponds and channels. The lake’s water temperature changes significantly throughout the year. In winter, it can drop to around 3–5°C, while in spring it rises to about 12–15°C. During the summer months, when the weather is stable and warm, the temperature often reaches between 22 and 26°C, making the water comfortable for brief swimming. In autumn, it gradually cools down again to about 10–15°C.
Although swimming in Bardača Lake is technically possible during summer, it is not officially encouraged because the area is primarily a protected wetland important for birds and fish habitats. The water tends to be murky and rich in vegetation, which reduces visibility and makes it less suitable for recreational swimming. However, local visitors sometimes swim or paddle near the shore in the warmest months.
