** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The lake formed by the Alarcón Dam (Embalse de Alarcón) in Castilla–La Mancha experiences marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature typical of a continental Mediterranean reservoir. In winter surface temperatures commonly fall to around 6–10 °C (43–50 °F), while spring and autumn see moderate values roughly between 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) as the water warms or cools. In the warmest months of summer the surface can reach approximately 22–28 °C (72–82 °F), though local conditions such as wind, depth, inflow and recent rainfall can produce cooler pockets or faster cooling at depth. These are approximate ranges for the upper layers; deeper water remains cooler year-round.
Swimming in the Embalse de Alarcón is a frequent recreational use and is often permitted in accessible shore areas, since the reservoir supports boating and leisure activities. However, permissions can vary by municipality and by seasonal conditions: authorities may impose restrictions for safety, water-quality concerns, low reservoir levels, or operational reasons (flows, boat traffic and submerged hazards). There are usually no official lifeguard services, so swimmers should follow posted signs, avoid areas near inlets, outlets and boat channels, and be prepared for sudden depth changes and colder temperatures below the surface. Checking local rules and water-quality notices before swimming is advisable.
