** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Swansea, a coastal city in South Wales, is framed by the River Tawe, which flows into Swansea Bay. The Tawe’s temperature is highly variable, mirroring the seasonal changes in the region. During the winter, the water is cold, typically ranging from about 4∘C to 8∘C (39∘F to 46∘F). In the summer, the river warms up modestly, with temperatures often peaking between 14∘C and 18∘C (57∘F to 64∘F).
Swimming in the main stretch of the River Tawe is generally restricted, particularly in the lower, barraged section, and is not officially recommended. This is primarily due to concerns over water quality, which can be negatively affected by urban and storm water runoff, especially following heavy rainfall. Furthermore, the river features a barrage, and the presence of boats and underwater debris poses a risk. For safer water recreation, the city boasts the nearby Gower Peninsula, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with stunning beaches like Rhossili Bay, and the LC Waterpark for indoor swimming. Other attractions include the National Waterfront Museum and the Dylan Thomas Centre.
