*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Newport, situated on the River Usk in South Wales, is an ancient city with a significant industrial past. The River Usk's water temperature is heavily influenced by the Bristol Channel's tides and the shallow depth in its lower reaches. Throughout the year, the water is generally cool, with winter temperatures typically bottoming out between 7∘C and 10∘C (45∘F to 50∘F). In the warmest summer months, the water can reach a high of around 15∘C to 17∘C (59∘F to 63∘F), though it often remains chilly.
Swimming in the River Usk within the city is strongly discouraged and generally considered unsafe. The lower, tidal section running through Newport has historically suffered from pollution, including sewage and agricultural runoff, leading to poor water quality. The fast, powerful tides of the Severn Estuary also present extreme safety hazards. Consequently, there are no official swimming areas. Visitors can, however, enjoy other attractions like the iconic Newport Transporter Bridge or the history of Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths just outside the city. Tredegar House and the Newport Wetlands Nature Reserve also offer popular recreational opportunities nearby.
