*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The River Neath, known as Afon Nedd in Welsh, flows from the Brecon Beacons down to the coast, with its water temperatures reflecting its origin as a fast-flowing mountain river. Throughout the year, the water remains notably cold, often dropping to around 5∘C to 9∘C (41∘F to 48∘F) in the winter months. Even at the height of summer, the temperature in the main river channel typically only reaches a cool 14∘C to 17∘C (57∘F to 63∘F), which still poses a risk of cold water shock.
General recreational swimming in the main River Neath is not advised or permitted due to strong currents, unpredictable depths, and hazards such as underwater debris. However, the upper tributaries of the Neath system, forming the famous 'Waterfall Country' near Pontneddfechan, offer popular spots for wild swimming in clear plunge pools beneath waterfalls, although these waters are significantly colder. Beyond the river, Neath offers attractions like the historic Neath Abbey Ruins, the spectacular Aberdulais Falls (managed by the National Trust), and the extensive walking trails of Gnoll Estate Country Park.
